Top Five Diet Plan Choices

With so many different diet plans to choose from, how do you know which one to pick?  Just because a plan promises to make those excess pounds drop off quickly doesn’t make it a good plan.

Here are a few questions to ask yourself before choosing a diet plan:

  • Is this diet plan realistic, or does it set me up for failure?
  • Is this diet plan healthy?
  • Does this diet plan promise something that it likely cannot deliver?  (If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.)
  • Is this a diet that I could live with for the rest of my life?
  • What is the success rate of this diet plan?

I have chosen the following diet plans because they ARE realistic and feasible.  They do not make unrealistic promises, and they CAN work!

My top five diet plan choices are:

  1. Medifast Diet PlanA holistic approach to dieting, Medifast is designed to promote a healthy body, as well as weight loss and maintenance.  It combines exercise, good nutrition, and a support system to encourage successful weight loss experiences.  There are nutritional Medifast guides and products to meet your needs based on your age and gender, as well as the needs of those who suffer from various health conditions.  The Medifast Plan was developed by a physician and has been doctor-recommended since 1980. 

  2. Weight WatchersWeight Watchers has been around for a long time and has proven to be a successful, long term weight loss program.  It teaches you healthy eating habits that can help you make smart food choices, lose the weight and keep it off permanently.  Based around a point system, Weight Watchers is a flexible diet that can be followed throughout your life.  Weight Watchers meetings provide the support you need to reach your weight-loss goals.

  3. The Jenny Craig Program This weight loss program teaches portion control and healthy eating habits.  It provides a nutritious menu from which to plan your meals.  The menu is one that will keep you satisfied and happy and can realistically be followed throughout your life.  Jenny Craig also teaches the importance of regular physical activity, as well as having balance in your life.  To be truly successfully in your weight-loss endeavors, you need to exercise and you need to find time to relax and play.  A healthy lifestyle is all about “balance.”  Jenny Craig also provides you with your own personal coach to help you reach your fitness goals.

  4. Nutrisystem This diet plan is based on the Glycemic Index, which measures the quality of carbohydrates and how carbs impact your blood sugar levels.  The Nutrisystem Program focuses on low-glycemic carbohydrates (good carbs) and foods high in protein and fiber and low in fat.  It is intended to maintain healthy blood sugar levels and prevent in-between meal cravings.

  5. Atkins Diet PlanSimilar to the Nutrisystem Program, the Atkins Diet Plan promotes eating fewer bad carbs (i.e. refined sugars and refined carbohydrates).  It allows you to eat healthy foods from all the food groups and is the type of diet that you can follow for a lifetime.  The Atkins Diet Plan also allows for flexibility in your diet, so that it can be personalized to meet your specific needs.
