Weight Loss Tips

Anyone who has ever tried a weight loss program has probably hoped for and dreamed of a fast, easy solution.  Unfortunately, there are no quick fixes for weight problems.  It typically takes some time to put on all those extra pounds.  By the same token, it typically takes some time to take off those extra pounds!

Don’t give up hope, however!  Successful weight loss IS possible!  All you need to do is follow a few weight loss tips!  Below is a list of tips that can help you on your way to a slimmer, healthier, happier YOU:

  •  Avoid fad diets that either eliminate an entire food group or focus on only one food group.  Such diets may initially produce a loss in weight.  The weight loss is generally only water weight and not a loss of fat.  Also, these fad diets are not healthy and could result in health problems on down the road.

  • DO eat a balanced, healthy diet based upon the USDA Food Pyramid.  This type of diet includes foods from all the major food groups and will insure that you get all the minimum requirements of vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients.

  • Eat several (preferably six) small meals each day.  If you’re on a 1500 calorie per day diet, for instance, divide those calories into six small meals/snacks.  This method tends to keep you from getting hungry throughout the day, thus, tempting you into doing some binge eating at day’s end.

  • Perhaps eating six times a day isn’t feasible with your schedule and lifestyle.  If this is the case, simply make sure that you eat at least three balanced meals in small portions.  Include lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, and eat more fish and poultry than red meat.

  • NEVER skip breakfast!  The body’s metabolism will actually rev up when you eat breakfast.  When you go too long without food, the metabolism slows down as a way to protect the body from starvation.

  • Don’t deny yourself a little treat once-in-awhile.  It is better to indulge your craving with a small portion of dessert or other treat than to wait until you completely lose control and eat the whole thing!

  • If exercise isn’t your thing, at least get up and stretch or engage in some sort of active play each day.  A little movement is better than no movement at all!

  • Turn to friends and family for support during this time in which you are striving to lose weight.  Discuss your concerns with someone close to you and seek encouragement to help you stick with your weight loss efforts.

  • Make sure that any weight loss goals you set for yourself are realistic and within the realm of possibly reaching them.  If you set unrealistic goals, you set yourself up for failure from the beginning.

If you follow the above weight loss tips, you should start to see results within a few weeks.  Remember, to lose the weight and keep it off, you have to be patient and persistently follow your weight loss plan.  That extra fat didn’t appear overnight, and it isn’t going to disappear overnight, either.

Note: Be sure to consult a medical professional before beginning any weight loss program.
