So
You're Over 40! It's Time to Get in Shape!
You're
over 40? Me, too! In fact, I am over fifty! However, I do not let my age stop
me from staying in shape! What kind of shape are you in? If you're basically an
overweight couch potato, then it's time to get in shape! Come on! If I can do
it, so can you!!!
Okay
maybe
you're carrying around a few extra pounds. I've been there! I know how it feels
to be lugging around unwanted flab! But, when I made up my mind to shed that unwanted
fat, the rest was downhill from there!
How
Do You Get Started on the Road to Fitness?
The
first step to fitness is simply deciding that you ARE going to work on getting
in shape. Once you've made that decision, commit yourself to carrying through
with it.
Next,
set realistic goals. If you set goals that are too unrealistic and difficult
to reach, chances are great that you will give up before you're anywhere near
reaching those goals. And remember that it's quite alright to begin with little
baby steps!
Now
that your goals are set, create a plan for reaching them! No goals are accomplished
without a little discipline and effort! For instance, if your goal is to lose
thirty pounds, the first line of defense might be cutting back on calories. After
all, until you get your activity level up where it needs to be, you cannot continue
to eat as many calories as you have been and expect to make any progress towards
your goal.
(Keep
in mind that you'll get better results by combining a healthy, balanced diet with
a suitable exercise program.)
Write
down your plan. Keep a journal on all the ways you follow your plan and on any
progress you make towards reaching your goal of getting in shape. Whatever you
do, do NOT weigh yourself daily! Doing so would most likely result in disappointment
and discouragement. To be successful in reaching your goals, you need to keep
it positive!
Be
kind to yourself! Pat yourself on the back for any effort you make. Don't
put yourself down! Reward yourself when you notice that progress has been made!
YOU
CAN DO IT!
Yes,
you may be over 40! However, that doesn't mean you're old, and it certainly doesn't
mean you have to be out of shape! In fact, once you've adapted healthy eating
habits and begun to exercise regularly, you're going to feel younger, look younger,
and be happier!
As
I said before, if I can do it, so can you!!!
