Weight Loss and Treadmill Workouts Yes,
once you've hit 40 and beyond, you typically have to work at keeping a trim figure.
Eating a healthy diet in moderate portions is essential to keeping those extra
pounds off! EXERCISE is also essential to staying slim and fit!
One
of the best forms of exercise that I have found is the treadmill workout. A treadmill
workout doesn't require any special skills and can be done alone. All you have
to do is be able to walk. Below are some of the advantages of working out on a
treadmill: Most
modern power treadmills have control panels that are simple to operate and easy
to read. Just select the workout program that is suitable for you, set the
amount of time you want to exercise and the intensity level that you desire, and
you're ready to begin!
One
of the major benefits of a treadmill is the ability to incline the deck. You
can increase the incline level and burn even more calories than you would walking
or jogging on a level incline. When I work out on a treadmill, I find that setting
the incline level to a higher grade really gets my heart rate pumping. And it
is excellent for interval training, which increases the caloric burn.
Working
out on a treadmill allows you to monitor your workouts. You can keep track
of your heart rate, distance traveled, and the amount of time that you've been
exercising.
One
of the great factors about treadmill workouts is that the amount of impact on
the body is almost completely eliminated! Because the treadbelt absorbs the impact,
your body is protected against joint and back injuries.
Treadmill workouts are convenient. They can be done anytime of day or night
and in a controlled environment. They keep you out of inclement weather, so that
you stay comfortable throughout your workout. As you exercise, you may also simultaneously
engage in other activities, such as reading, watching TV, or studying for an exam.
How great is that?
Just
because you're over 40 doesn't mean that you cannot be fit and trim! All it takes
is a little work and discipline. Watch your diet and get plenty of exercise! Treadmill
Cons As
with any exercise equipment, there are pros and cons. For one thing, unless you
can afford your own treadmill, you're going to have to travel to a place where
there is a treadmill (such as a gym or a friend's home). And, if you can afford
your own treadmill, you have to have enough space in which to keep your treadmill!
After all, treadmills ARE rather large machines! Not
all treadmills are created equally! Some treadmills are made strictly for walking!
These treadmills do not have the power and durability required for joggers and
runners. Also, some treadmills are capable of accommodating only so much weight.
If you weigh more than the maximum allowed weight for a certain treadmill, obviously
that treadmill isn't right for you. And, if the treadbelt isn't adequate for your
stride, then you need a treadmill with a bigger walking surface. See
