If your BMI is 19 to 24, there's probably not a health advantage to losing weight. Keep up healthy habits to stay in this ideal range. If your BMI is 25 or more, losing weight might improve your health. If your BMI is under 19, you're most likely underweight.

To calculate your BMI, follow these steps, from Mayo Clinic on Healthy Weight:

  1. Multiply your weight in pounds by .45.
  2. Multiply your height in inches by .025.
  3. Square the answer from step 2.
  4. Divide the answer from step 1 by the answer from step 3. The result is your BMI.

Weight Loss Tip #2 - Why are you Overweight?

Before you begin any weight loss program you need to come to terms with how you got overweight. If your weight problem is emotional then you need to correct those issues that want to be drowned in food. If it is medical, then you should seek help and assistance from medical professionals. If it just is that you like the wrong foods then proceed to the next weight loss tip.

Weight Loss Tip #3 - Surround yourself with the right foods

If you have a house full of high fact food, guess what, you are probably going to become overweight. Buy smart at the store. In fact, make sure you eat before you go to the store. If you buy the right foods and wean your body off the junk food, you'll eventual crave items like fruit and veggies over chips and cookies.

Weight Loss Tip #4 - Eat Reasonable Portions

I tend to be a member of the clean plate club. I feel guilty when I leave food on my plate. That means two things. When I cook at home I need to keep the amount of food to a reasonable level. When I go out to a restaurant I need to avoid appetizers and desert. And in most cases I need to bring home a doggy bag.

Weight Loss Tip #5 - Exercise, Exercise, Exercise

If you are serious about losing weight then you need to burn calories. You'll lose weight by dieting, but that will only take it so far. You got to sweat. If you are out of shape start slow and consider getting advise from your doctor on the proper level of physical activity.
